ERC Launches Construction of Bishoftu Railway Academy

ERC, Nov 23, 2025 — The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) has launched construction of the Bishoftu Railway Academy, a flagship center dedicated to modern railway training, research, and technology.

Minister of Transport and Logistics Alemu Sime (PhD) said the Academy will strengthen national connectivity, support economic growth, and develop skilled professionals for Ethiopia’s expanding railway network.

ERC CEO Eng. Hlina Belachew called the groundbreaking “a foundation for knowledge, innovation, and the future of Ethiopian and East African railways.”

The Academy aims to become a regional center of excellence, offering training to Ethiopia and neighboring countries and contributing to regional integration.

Bishoftu Mayor Ato Alemayehu Assefa welcomed the project, noting its added value for the city.
The event was attended by H.E. Sem Fabrizi, Ambassador of Italy, officials, community leaders, and development partners.
