COIPA and Ethiopian Railway Corporation Sign MoU for National Rail Infrastructure Advancement
COIPA S.p.A. is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC) to jointly explore and support the development of a national light railway network across Ethiopia.
As part of this cooperation, COIPA is also assisting ERC in identifying and engaging a qualified operating partner to manage and run the future railway infrastructure.

This ambitious project envisions a modern light rail system connecting Addis Ababa to
key regional cities — Gondar, Mekele, Wollega, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Arba Minch, Dire Dawa, Harar, and beyond.

Searching for the Right Operator
In coordination with ERC, COIPA is seeking expressions of interest from experienced railway operators to partner on this transformative initiative.
The selected operator(s) will be instrumental in:
- Managing operations and maintenance of the light rail lines
- Implementing high safety and service standards
- Training and employing local staff
- Ensuring efficient and sustainable operations
