URBAN UTILITIES UNDERGROUND TUNNEL

Particular attention was given to the urban utilities distribution. Considering the size of the planned urban
system, which required a particular approach with the need to equip the overall system with suitable
solutions to satisfy the following services:
• disposal of waste water;
• disposal of clear water that cannot be recovered for other uses;
• recovery of rainwater by channeling it into tanks located in all areas of relevance for the use of garden
irrigation;
• drinking water pipes;
• cable ducts for the distribution of electricity;
• cable ducts for the supply of broadband lines;
• conduits for public lighting;
• ducts dedicated to the video surveillance service.
The pipelines containing the dark and clear waters will be made by traditional underground channels at an
adequate depth which, coming from the buildings, will be conveyed into a technological tunnel, accessible by
maintenance technicians, totally underground built along the entire peripheral section of the docks of the
tourist port adjacent to the road.
Considering the length traveled by the drains, the tunnel will consist of six sectors connected by lifting
stations to each two sectors, allowing for the inclination to be used for each sector before discharging the
contents into the municipal sewers and then to the purifier.
Internally, the ducts dedicated to accommodate the ducts and the drinking water duct will be located in the
upper part of the tunnel, so as to allow the black and white water ducts to gain the right heights for their
disposal by positioning themselves higher at the beginning of the sector and lower in connecting to the lifting
unit, and so on in succession.
The technological tunnel will be built with prefabricated walls of reinforced concrete, guarantying the access
to maintenance personnel and technicians who, before accessing it, will have to put into operation the
internal air exchange devices with which the system will be equipped.
