Description
Design principles:
horizontal planes – the building is defined and delimited by two large horizontal planes, both massive and covered in black slate: the plate basement, that fastens the building to the ground, and the flat roof, which defines it at the top;
boxes – between the two large shelves, volumes that are functionally and architecturally diversified are included: the first, clad in stone piasentina, spread over two floors and contains on the ground floor, the garage and the storage room, while at the first-floor bedroom, bathroom and cloakroom are located. The second volume, covered with brise-soleil, extends only to a floor and contains the kitchen. The third, hanging from the roof, has a prismatic shape: it is finished in plaster and contains a bedroom facing south. The connections between the “boxes” are in glass to keep all the compositional elements readable from the outside;
connections – a hidden staircase connects the ground floor to the first. On the first floor a catwalk, suspended over the empty double-height as a bridge, connects the three “boxes”. The design features emphasize the lightness (metal profiles of the parapet, wood slats floor, glass railings);
septum – the building is completely closed to the north by a septum in bare reinforced concrete. The only openings on the ground floor (the small windows of the bathroom and the laundry room, the door of the central heat and the garage door), are covered in order to not leave transparent items visible and blend in the septum wall. The building opens on the south looking out through the large glass wall, the surrounding greenery.
space – particular attention has been paied to the quality of the interior space, being the architecture a design of the vacuum in which we live. The common areas, interposed to the volumes, are double-height and crossed by the suspended bridge, allow the use of a airy and articulate space, while maintaining the reading of the individual elements of the composition, characterized by simple shapes, smooth surfaces and differentiated materials.
The building is characterized by the alternation of full-height glazing and opaque surfaces coated with stone and concrete panels; prospects are horizontally delimited from the ground plate and the roof slab, both covered with slate.
